FS Junior Olympics Underway In Gainesville- The Florida Swimming Spring Junior Olympic Championships got underway tonight at the University of Florida's O'Connell Center in Gainesville. Leading the way tonight was Summer Finke (12) of St. Petersburg Aquatics (SPA). Fink won the 11-12 Girls 1000 Yard Freestyle with a new Junior Olympic Meet Record Time of 10:08.80. The meet continues tomorrow morning at the O'Connell Center and runs through Sunday Evening. |

FS Junior Olympics Day 2 Sees More Records Fall- Day two of the Florida Swimming Spring Junior Olympic Championships are in the books and tonight's Finals saw three new Relay Records and one Individual Record fall. Leading the way tonight was Ryan Murphy (13) of the Bolles School Sharks (BSS). Murphy set a new Junior Olympic Meet Record in the 13-14 Boys 100 Butterfly with a time of :51.22. Also setting new records today were the 13-14 Girls and the 13-14 Buys 400 Medley Relays from BSS and the 11-12 Boys 400 Medley Relay from Tampa Bay Community Aquatics (TBAY).
In the Team Scoring Race, the Sarasota YMCA Sharks (SYS) have accumulated 1,005.50 points to lead of just under 200 points ahead of the BSS (808.00). Currently in third place is TBAY with 772.00 points followed by Clearwater Aquatic Team (CAT) in fourth in 570.50 points and Fast Lane Aquatics (FSLA) in fifth to round out the top five teams.
The meet continues tomorrow morning at the O'Connell Center and runs through Sunday Evening. |

Records Continue to Fall at FS Junior Olympics- The third day of the Florida Swimming Spring Junior Olympic Championships is complete and today's events saw three new Individual Records and one Relay Record broken. The TBAY 11-12 Boys picked up their second Junior Olympic Meet Record of the week, this one coming in the 200 Medley Relay with their time of 1:51.73. In the individual events, Ryan Murphy (13) of BSS nabbed his second Junior Olympic Record of the weekend, this one coming in the 13-14 Boys 100 Backstroke. Murphy's time of :51.08 was also a new LSC Record (State). Merrill Wilson (13) of Brandon Sports & Aquatic Center (BSAC) also eclipsed the old Junior Olympic Record in the 13-14 Girls 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:01.27. The third record for the day came from Ian Apple (14) of BSS. Apple went :21.39 in the 50 Freestyle breaking the old record by just 7 one-hundredths of a second.
In the Team Scoring Race, the Sarasota YMCA Sharks (SYS) continue to hold their lead with1,738.00 points, just under 200 points ahead of the BSS (1,542.50). TBAY is still in third place with 1,368.50 points, followed by CAT in fourth in 989.00 points and Highlander Aquatics (HIGH) has moved into fifth place with 600.50 points.
The meet continues tomorrow morning at the O'Connell Center and concludes with tomorrows Finals Sunday Evening. |

Sarasota YMCA Sharks Do It Again- In what seems to be a recurring dream, the Sarasota YMCA Sharks (SYS) have won another Florida Swimming Spring Junior Olympic Championship. SYS racked up a total of 2,148.50 points over the three and a half day event. Second place in the team race went to the Bolles School Sharks (BSS) with 1,919.50 points, third to Tampa Bay Community Aquatics (TBAY) with 1,687.00, fourth to the Clearwater Aquatic Team (CAT) with 1,289.00 and rounding out the top five teams was Fast Lane Aquatics (FSLA) with 796.00 points.
In tonight's individual events, Ryan Murphy (13) of BSS continued his assault on the record books with two new Junior Olympic Records to add to his collection. The first of the evening came in the 13-14 Boys 200 Individual Medley (1:55.42) and the second in the 200 Backstroke where Murphy went a 1:49.71, shattering the previous record of 1:54.13.
Next up is the Florida Swimming Senior Championships which take place next week (February 26-March 1) at the YMCA Aquatic Center, in Orlando. |
