Florida Swimming will award two $1,000.00 awards to one male and one female Florida Swimming/USA Swimming athlete member, in 2008. If you know of a student/athlete member that you believe deserves and meets the criteria please have them fill out the enclosed form and return it by July 11, 2008. The award committee will review the applications and announce the recipient during the 2008 Florida State Senior Swimming Championship being held at Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Criteria for the Award:
· The nominee must show the ability to be a strong leader with his or her peers.
·
Must be a graduating high school senior.·
The nominee must be a current 2008 Florida Swimming member in Good standing and have been with Florida Swimming as a member for at least 2 years.·
They must graduate with a minimum of a 3.25 GPA (unweighted).·
The nominee should be well-respected member of their community (i.e. volunteer, civic organizations, church, school, etc.)Florida Swimming will award two $1,000.00 awards to one male and one female Florida Swimming/USA Swimming athlete member, in 2008. The winning participants submitting essays for the 2007 Irene & Bud Hackett Award were announced at the 2007 FS Senior Championship held at Indian River Community College. The award of $1,000.00 each was awarded to Kelsey Clark of the Sarasota YMCA Sharks and Jeffrey Caldwell of the Carrollwood Village Swim Team.

2006 Florida Swimming Irene & Bud Hackett Award Recipients Announced- Congratulations to our Florida Swimming 2006 recipients of the Irene & Bud Hackett Award award. The scholarship award of $1,000.00 each was awarded to Denise Gunter, Wave Makers of North Florida & Michael Stone, Stone Crab Swim Team. The awards were presented at the 2006 FS Senior Championship meet hosted at Indian River Community College.
Each year, Florida Swimming awards two $1000.00 Awards, one to a male and one to a female member of Florida Swimming, in memory of Florida Swimming's long time Executive Director, Irene Hackett and her husband Bud. The criteria for the Award is as follows:

Bud & Irene Hackett Award Winners Announced- The Central Florida Marlins' Sherah Aiken and Swim Florida's Chris Sullivan have been announced as the recipients of the 2005 Bud & Irene Hackett Awards. Each year, Florida Swimming awards two $1000.00 awards, one to a male and one to a female member of Florida Swimming, in memory of Florida Swimming's long time Executive Director, Irene Hackett and her husband Bud. The criteria for the Award is as follows:
· The nominee must show the
ability to be a strong leader with his or her peers.
· Must be a graduating high school senior.
· The nominee must be a current Florida Swimming Member in good standing and has
been with Florida Swimming as a member for at least 2 years.

Sherah and Chris also had to write an essay explaining what it means to be a leader to your peers in today’s society. The essay had to include why it is important to you to be a leader, how you became an effective leader, what it means to you to be a leader, as well as where you were a leader.
Congratulations and Good Luck to both Sherah who will be attending the University of South Carolina and Chris who will be attending Penn State this Fall.

Each year, Florida Swimming awards two $1000.00 Awards, one to a male and one to a female member of Florida Swimming, in memory of Florida Swimming's Long time Executive Director, Irene Hackett and her husband Bud. The criteria for the Award is as follows:

Julie and Grant also had to write an essay explaining what it means to be a leader to your peers in today’s society. The essay had to include why it is important to you to be a leader, how you became an effective leader, what it means to you to be a leader, as well as where you were a leader.
Congratulations and Good Luck to both Julie who will be attending the University of Rhode Island and Grant who will be attending The University of Kentucky this Fall.

Chris Caywood of St. Edwards Aquatics - Chris is from Sebastian, Florida and has been a Florida Swimming Member for over 9 years. He attended Sebastian River High School in the IB Program and was a member of the National Honor Society and Leadership Council. Chris also swam for the High School Team and volunteered with the Special Olympics. Chris was a USA-Swimming Academic All American, a NISCA All-American in the 200 and 500 Freestyles and a member of the Florida Swimming Zone All-Star Team. He graduated with a 4.69 GPA and will be attending Lehigh University in the Fall of 2003.
Nellie Langeland of North Central Florida YMCA - Nellie is from Gainesville, Florida, and has been a Florida Swimming Member for over 9 years. She attended Bucholz High School where she was a member of the French Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Nellie also swam for the High School and volunteered in the Educats Program and with the summer school program in town. She graduated with a 4.50 GPA and will be attending Tulane University in the Fall of 2003.
